I have taught for 11 years as a singing teacher privately at my home in Surbiton. Prior to this, I worked as an Operatic Soprano performing with Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Garsington Opera, English Touring Opera, Grange Park Opera to name a few.
I currently teach on a Tuesday, Wednesday 3:30pm-5:30pm, Thursday morning and Friday. I currently have very limited space on a Saturday morning. I have an enhanced DBS check. I teach adults and children from the age of 6 upwards. I am very passionate about vocal technique, using it to express the story and emotion through our voice. I feel very strongly about instilling in every student a healthy technique with which they can develop and perform to their fullest.
My aim is to help you achieve your full vocal potential and enable you to communicate and express freely and with honesty.
We will work to breathe with more freedom and improve breath capacity, improve postural awareness, improve vocal range and tone of voice, develop resonance and flexibility, release unwanted tension and build your library of repertoire
Technique is the basis of everything in singing. It really does give you complete confidence in your sound and in your performance. My students and I have lots of fun and always find ourselves laughing about something.
Being a classically trained soprano, I have a great deal of knowledge of the classical/operatic/song repertoire but I also hugely enjoy teaching musical theatre, jazz and pop music. I have completed levels 1 and 2 of Estill Voice Training.
My lessons for children are structured in a way to make them fast flowing, engaging and fun while learning technique at the same time. We typically start off with some body stretches/warm up exercises, moving into tongue twisters and vocal warmups. We will then look at a couple of pieces, you will then be given a backing track so you can easily practise at home. I work hard with my students and prepare them thoroughly to achieve excellent marks in both ABRSM and Trinity graded music exams, confident and assured singing in auditions and performances. My students gain a 100% pass rate with the majority being awarded distinction.
I have taught singing in prep schools, secondary schools, leading singing sessions in classrooms of 30 to 60 8/9 year olds, for Primary Robins as well as conducting their 90 strong student concert at Grange Park Opera. Directing and coaching opera workshops and rehearsals with up to 80 9-18 year olds for London Youth Opera/W11 Opera.
Performances are so important and bringing all of those hours of practise and dedication, acting and storytelling as well as nerves together to create something so exciting! I aim to put on 2 informal concerts a year, giving my students the opportunity to perform in front of family and friends.
